What is the Celsius Scale?

  • 0°C is the temperature at which water freezes.
  • 100°C is the temperature at which water boils.

The Celsius scale works simply:

What is the Fahrenheit Scale ?

The Fahrenheit scale (°F) is a system for measuring temperature, created by German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in the early 1700s. This scale is primarily used in the United States for weather reports, cooking, and measuring body temperature. It is different from other temperature scales like Celsius and Kelvin because of its unique reference points.
On the Fahrenheit scale:
  • 32°F is the temperature at which water freezes.
  • 212°F is the temperature at which water boils.
The scale divides the range between freezing and boiling points of water into 180 equal degrees . This makes each degree Fahrenheit smaller than a degree Celsius. Initially, Fahrenheit set 0°F as the temperature of a mixture of ice, water, and salt (which produces the lowest temperature achievable at the time). He set 96°F as the average human body temperature. Later, these reference points were slightly adjusted to:
  • 32°F for the freezing point of water

Step 3: Divide the result by 5 225 ÷ 5 = 45
Step 4: Add 32: Add 32 to the result to get the Fahrenheit temperature. 45 + 32 = 77°F
