Pattern in Mathematics introduces you to the idea that Maths is not limited to calculations. You observe patterns in numbers and shapes, visualise number sequences, and compare relationships between different sequences. The chapter encourages you to recognise rules and connections instead of looking at numbers individually.
This chapter builds the foundation for geometry by introducing points, line segments, lines, rays, and angles. You understand how these geometrical elements differ and then move on to comparing, measuring, and drawing angles. You also become familiar with different types of angles and their measurements.
Number Play takes a more exploratory approach to numbers. You work with number-line patterns, digits, palindromic patterns, clock and calendar numbers, mental Maths, and estimation. This chapter introduces you to ways of working with information. You begin by collecting and organising data before representing it through pictographs and bar graphs. You also understand how the way a graph is drawn and presented can make information easier to read and compare.
Prime Time focuses on the relationships between numbers through factors and multiples. You work with common factors, common multiples, prime and co-prime numbers, prime factorisation, and divisibility tests. These concepts help you examine how whole numbers can be divided, grouped, and expressed through their factors.
This chapter deals with measuring shapes in two different ways. Perimeter helps you calculate the distance around a shape, while area tells you how much surface it covers. You also work with the area of triangles, helping you distinguish between measuring a boundary and measuring the space inside it.
The Fractions chapter develops your understanding of parts of a whole and equal shares. You work with fractional units, mixed fractions, equivalent fractions, and fractions on a number line. The chapter then moves into comparing fractions and performing addition and subtraction with them.
Play with Construction gives geometry a practical focus. You work with squares and rectangles and practise constructing these shapes accurately. The chapter also introduces explorations involving their diagonals and points that are equally distant from two given points.
This chapter helps you recognise balance and repetition in geometrical shapes. You study line symmetry, where a figure can be divided into matching halves, and rotational symmetry, where a figure matches its original position after being rotated. Through the Token Model and different situations involving integers, you work with positive and negative numbers and see where they can appear in different contexts.
